8 successful women in technology in Mexico: challenges, lessons and advice

In the framework of Women’s Day 2023, Capterra interviewed eight successful women in the technology field in Mexico, whether the company where they work belongs to the technology industry or their position is related to technological operations. This article compiles their experiences, challenges and reflections in this field.

The profiles of the interviewees are diverse, they have studied different careers and specializations, their professional careers have also been different but they all have in common that they currently occupy a successful position in technology in Mexico.

The challenges presented by the world of technology and business
Starting a career in any sector is not easy, and in the world of technology it can be even more difficult. We asked the interviewees what challenges they have faced in this field and whether having knowledge of technology and software has been key to their professional development.

The challenge of working with IT teams

This is the case of Lorena Ostos and Giovanna  strategic use of social meia Abramo , founders of Plenna . “We have had to familiarize ourselves with how the tech world works , learn to work in a certain way, and with tech teams ,” explains Lorena, who adds that having knowledge of technology is useful for communicating with IT teams: “It also helps me to know about technology to understand the implications of the  shopping data changes that other areas suddenly request and to try to align expectations and times with them.”

A similar situation is described by Myriam Cosío , Chief External Affairs Officer at Clip , who recalls that one challenge was adapting to the Agile development culture , a project management method widely used in the IT world, which she was not used to: “I confess that adapting to this new way of doing things was very difficult for me.” She also points out that her technical knowledge, thanks to her engineering studies, and her experience as a new product manager in previous positions: “…helped a lot to understand the relevant concepts of the technology applied at Clip.”
